The breed almanac
Cane Corso
A substantial silhouette with an understated surface. The Cane Corso offers a study in dark and muted coat colours, with styling ideas kept separate from garment availability.
Traits and identification
A broad, deep muzzle and a large, muscular body longer than it is tall are characteristic. Natural ears hang beside the head. The short coat emphasises the outline; appearance does not establish ancestry. 1
Origin and history
In Italy, Cane Corsos worked on farms in roles that included guarding, hunting and moving loads. The breed declined as rural life changed during the twentieth century. Enthusiasts began a concerted revival in the 1970s. 2
Coats and sizes
The AKC standard includes black, several greys, fawn and red, with brindling also allowed. Here we compare black and grey examples. These are only two parts of the breed's broader colour range. 1
A note on size
AKC shoulder heights are 25–27½ inches for males and 23½–26 inches for females. This is a large breed: do not infer fit from a product photograph or the presence of a Custom size option. 1
Colour and couture
Compare the depth of the coat first: grey and black respond differently to pale colours. The garments below illustrate palettes, not confirmed Cane Corso sizing. Contact us with measurements before considering an order.
A colour pairing is not a fit recommendation. Check the individual garment's measurements and available options before choosing a size.
